What is a carpool? Carpooling, also known as ridesharing or liftsharing, is the shared use of a car often by people who each have a car but travel together to save cost and to promote other socio-environmental benefits. In some countries, there are special facilities intended to encourage carpooling such as transit or high-occupancy vehicle lanes which only allow cars with multiple passengers to use them at certain times of the day. I don't have a car. Can I still use the service? Absolutely! There are people who are drivers and looking for passengers. Owning a vehicle is NOT a requirement for this service. Why should I carpool or share ride?
A carpool is a regular travel for commuters, eg. from Manhatten, New York to The Bronx, New York every weekday. A rideshare is an one-off trip for travellers and hitchhikers, eg. from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Is carpool / rideshare safe?
What if I can't find a carpool in my area? Simple! Create your own carpool listing and let other people find you. How much does it cost to list a ride? Nothing, nil, nada...it's completely FREE! But please remember, unauthorized commercial advertising within listings is not allowed. Why do I need to register? Registration is for your own benefit. After you post a carpool listing, say you have found a carpool partner (or partners) or your situation has changed (for example a new job). Would you like to keep getting contacted by other people who are looking for a carpool? Probably not. Without an account, there's no way to grant you the right to change or delete a carpool listing. Please read Carpool King's privacy policy. Will my email address be displayed to the general public? Carpool King has a built-in private message system for you to communicate with other members. Your email is only used to receive important notifications etc. This way your email address is kept anonymous and free from spams (well at least not spammable through this website). Do I have to provide my phone number? Whether to provide it or not is totally up to you. A phone number is another mean of communication and IS viewable by the general public. How can I use this service with my erratic schedule? Carpool King is powerful and accomodates irregular schedules which are especially suitable for students and part timers. You can either create a listing with a irregular schedule or create multiple listings. Please remember you don't have to carpool everyday and you don't have to carpool with one person or one group of people only. You can carpool with person A from Monday to Wednesday and person B from Thursday to Friday. Be creative and feel free to stretch our powerful features to the limit. Wouldn't it be good if my carpool is not limited to just the departure and destination locations? Indeed! Carpool King supports flexible locations. If you travel from A to B and always go past C, why can't you pick up or drop off people at C? You can. Simply specify up to 10 alternative departure, destination or pass-by locations in your carpool listing and there you go. These flexible locations will then be searchable by the system as well. The website is not set to my country. How do I change it? We automatically set the country for you based on your IP address. This is not 100% accurate though and you may land in another country. There's a page title on every page right below "CARPOOL KING". There should be a link of "change" after the country name. Click on that and you'll be able to go to another region. I have a privacy concern. Why am I asked for full addresses to list a ride? First of all, address is an optional field that you can choose not to provide any detail. An address is preferred because it makes your ride much easier to be found. Unlike a general broad area, an address helps our system to pinpoint an exact location by latitude and longitude. This feature is especially useful for our proximity search. As with privacy, if your address contains street number information, then you'll be given the option to hide it from other users and have it only available for internal system search. All other results such as city, town, neighbourhood, intersection, street and landmark are quite general so there's no privacy issue. Please note that you can always edit your ride so there's really nothing to worry. Carpool King cares and protects your privacy and personal security. |
